Review: Bay of Angels

Bay of Angels
Released in 1963
Unrated

Fans of foreign films know that some of the sexiest and most romantic films of all time have come out of France. One of the best, and lesser known, French romances comes from director Jacques Demy (Lola, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg). Bay of Angels tells the story of two problem gamblers who find luck and love in one another in the luxurious casinos of the titular city of Nice. Their torrid romance hits the rocks, however, as luck begins to leave them. We begin to question if they are together because of a shared passion for one another, or a because of a passionate addiction to gambling. Can they give up the game that will surely pull them apart and lead them to ruin? One of the greatest French screen beauties of all time, Jeanne Moreau, commands the audience's attention with her subtly sexy style and grace. Iconic fashion designer Pierre Cardin created beautiful gowns and dresses for Moreau, and combined with her dazzling blonde coif she is the walking embodiment of French beauty. Moreau and equally as handsome costar Claude Mann have an undeniable onscreen chemistry and their bond throughout the film feels almost magnetic. Watch this passionate film with someone you are addicted to.
